Jim Boeheim will continue his streak of never finishing under .500 in a season. The Orange swept the Boston College series with a 84-71 win in Chestnut Hill. Takeaways:
1. Bizzare Stat of the Night
Boston College is not a good three point shooting team. The Eagles are outside the top-300 in three-point percentage, and were without one of their best Nik Popivich. Somehow, BC broke a Syracuse opponent record for threes made. The Orange watched 19 three-pointers fall through. Boston College was 19-42. That’s a pretty embarrassing performance from SU. The offense showed up, so it didn’t matter.
2. Elijah and Buddy Carry Offense
This should be normal, but it hasn’t been.
The last time Boeheim and Hughes both had 20 points was six games ago: Wake Forest. The duo combined for 49 tonight. Hughes was particularaly efficient tonight, at 11-20.
3. Sidibe Stays Hot
Bourama has averaged a double-double over the last four games, and he just missed one against BC (9/12). He had two dunks that had me rubbing my eyes wondering if they had just deceived me. Sidibe is playing with aggression and physicality.
“Anytime I touch the ball I’m confident I’m gonna score it,” he said after the game.
4. Not Developing
One of the most important things for the remainder of the season is developing the role players for next season. Hint: they’ll need to be more than role players in 2021. In the first half, only four Orange players scored.
Quincy Guerrier and Brycine Goodine combined for 7 points. Joe Girard, who will need to step up if Elijah Hughes leaves, was 1-5 from the field. Hughes going off is great and all, but it’s not really what fans should be most happy about at this point in the year.
