Three-Star Maliq Brown Chooses Syracuse

Three years removed from a five-commit class, the Orange have landed four so far for 2022. The latest being three-star power forward Maliq Brown, announced on his high school’s Instagram page.

Brown chose Syracuse over Virginia Tech, Penn State, NC State and Georgetown. In fact, his only official visit was to Central New York two weeks ago. The timing of Brown’s commitment is a welcomed surprise to Orange fans after they were amped just to make the power forward’s top five only four days ago.

The Virginia native stands at 6-foot-9, with his 210 pound stature being the most prominent part of his game. At that size, Brown fits the mold of a prototypical big at his position. His skillset is also extremely vast due to the roles he played and continues to play in high school. That includes the ability to run the floor, locate his spots in the point, a keen awareness for timing his blocks and a lethal pick-and-roll weapon.

This pickup for the Orange doesn’t fully negate the absence of former commit Kamari Lands (who would’ve occupied the power forward slot), but adds depth to a position that would’ve certainly lacked it next season.
