The Hall of Misfit Toys

In holiday terms, Bobby Gonzalez has put together the Island of Misfit Toys: NJ has a broken leg-lamp, while SU has a Red Ryder BB Gun.

The tests truly begin tonight for SU hoops with the first Big East game of the season against Seton Hall.

The Pirates have played a pretty easy schedule with only two roadies that came way back in November.

But boy can this team score.

Seton Hall has scored less than 80 points only twice, and one of those came in a recent loss to Temple.

And, they dropped 134 on VMI. Yeah. 134.

They’ve proven they can also hang with the big boys. Last time out the Pirates took #6 West Virginia to OT and lost by six.

Should that put a scare into Syracuse fans everywhere? Possibly.

Jim Boeheim¬†told ESPN Radio the bottom of the conference is beginning to rise this season with teams like Seton Hall, Rutgers (who kept it very close with UNC last night), and St. John’s continuing to get better.

The Per-fesser is not the only one with that theory. Brendan Prunty is on the SHU beat for the Newark Star-Ledger and agrees.

“They might have, arguably, top to bottom one of the most talented rosters in the Big East. It’s just that a lot of these guys are transfers; a lot of these guys have sat out a year due to academics. They’re just now getting into the flow.”

In belated holiday terms, Bobby Gonzalez has put together the¬†Island of Misfit Toys or lit up Jersey¬†broken leg-lamp instead of Syracuse’s¬†Red Ryder BB Gun.

Should SU fans expect a scare like UNC had against Rutgers last night? Probably not since the Orange trademark this year has been defense.

But don’t be surprised if this game is close at the half, especially since it’s on the road.

Let the Big East games begin!
