National Publication Has Syracuse Playing New Year’s Day in Outback Bowl

Syracuse fans are awaiting word on where Syracuse will end up this postseason. While some are nervous SU will not get a bid at all, most projections have the Orange playing this month. Phil Steele, college football analyst and publisher of the popular preseason guide Phil Steele’s College Football, has SU playing North Texas in the Outback Bowl.

The Outback is a C-USA vs. Big 10 matchup, but if the B1G can’t fulfill its slots then other power conference schools could swoop in. The game is played on New Year’s Day, which would be a huge opportunity for national relevance. The Outback has always had solid cache, and that has taken a slight hit now that it’s a C-USA bowl game. Nonetheless, playing on New Year’s Day at an NFL Stadium like Raymond James would be tremendous for Scott Shafer’s program.

Yahoo! Sports pegged the Orange for the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl, but Steele has Toledo and East Carolina tangling in that one. Some have suggested the Military Bowl, but Steele has Maryland and Marshall playing.

The Fizz discussed how beneficial playing in Tampa would be if the Orange were in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl. But the Outback would be even better, allowing the Florida sunshine for fans who wanted to make the trip. fertile recruiting grounds, and a New Year’s Day time slot. It was also the scene of Jadeveon Clowney’s epic hit against Michigan.
