Syracuse has always offered 4-star commits, but it used to seem like the Orange only did it to get the program’s name out there. The coaching staff really didn’t have a shot at landing the nation’s best. When Robert Washington committed last week SU won against the big boys. The team landed a major talent over the likes of Alabama, Florida and Michigan and they’re not stopping there.
SU now has some swagger, and the coaching staff is going to use that to try and bring in some more highly touted recruits.
So who is the Orange looking at? This past week Syracuse offered Pittsburgh, PA 4-star defensive back Damar Hamlin. This kid has Penn State written all over him, but SU is now trying to make a play. In addition to the Orange and Nittany Lions, Hamlin also has offers from Auburn, Clemson, Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford and many other schools. 247 Sports ranks him as the 18th best cornerback in the nation. What a coup this would be.
Texas 4-star defensive back Jared Mayden also received an offer from Syracuse this week. Mayden has a whole host of offers just like Hamlin that include Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan and TCU. Mayden said he would like to visit the Hill and that he plans to give the school serious consideration.
Another player on the SU’s radar is 4-star junior college offensive tackle Charles Baldwin. The lineman comes from ASA College in Brooklyn; the same school SU defensive lineman Wayne Williams attended before coming to Syracuse. Baldwin is 6’5,’’ 305 pounds and has offers that include Alabama and Ole Miss.
In addition to these 4-star players, SU has been linked with many three star and unranked players this week. They include PA receiver Aaron Matthews, 2017 NC quarterback Hendon Hooker, MA tight end Danny Dalton, NJ safety Terrell Vassel, JUCO NY offensive lineman Malcom Pridgeon, and NJ receiver Gene Coleman.
