Central Michigan Preview With CM Life Beat Writer Dom Mastrangelo

Everything you need to know about CMU ahead of its trip to the Dome.

CM Life football beat writer Dominick Mastrangelo joined Fizz Radio this week to break down the CMU Chippewas ahead of their game against Syracuse Saturday. Listen here for a complete preview of Central Michigan.

On what Orange fans need to know about the Chippewas.

“The buzz up here right now is that it’s the first road trip of the season. It’s the first road game for CMU under first year head coach John Bonamego who’s had an incredible offseason with a recent cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy and radiation treatments to deal with that, but he seems relatively healthy and the team is in good spirits as it heads out to get what a lot of people are expecting to be the first road win of the year.”

On CMU quarterback Cooper Rush.

“Cooper Rush is now a third year starter here at CMU. His story is pretty interesting. He was originally…a third string guy and after other quarterbacks went down with either injury or bad performance he stepped up and has gained confidence as time went on. [This] season Cooper Rush has grabbed full command of the reigns of this team. He’s the leader both on the field and off the field. He’s lost some weapons this year…but Cooper has not had any fall off.”

On CMU’s running game.

“The biggest problem for CMU this year and it’s really a fundamental of the game if you want to have any chance against a big Power 5 school if you’re a little mid major like Central Michigan is that you got to be able to run the ball effectively. CMU has not been able to do that. Our two backs Devon Spalding and Martez Walker have struggled. They haven’t reached the end zone yet and we have less than 200 yards rushing through our first two games.”

Mastrangelo prediction:

CMU 31 SU 28
