Syracuse is now up to 10 commits in the 2020 class after picking up three more over the weekend. Here’s the 411 on the three latest pledges.
S: Robert Hanna (Miami Palmetto, Miami, FL)
Size: 6-0,170
Ranking: 1275th, 3-star, 83 overall (via 247sports.com)
Other Offers: Miami, Louisville, Liberty, Pitt, UCF, USF, UAB
He came up for a visit with HS teammate and fellow target, WR Kentron Poitier, this past weekend after unofficially visiting SU back on April 13th. One of his only other visits was hometown Miami. Play-making safety from Miami Palmetto, same HS as Cornellius Nunn. Like Nunn, Syracuse beat out Miami for him. HIGHLIGHTS
ATH/S: Charles Bell (Quince Orchard, Gaithersburg, MD)
Extremely Honored to receive an offer from @CuseFootball #orange üçä pic.twitter.com/0T6EyctdBr
— Charles Bell VI (@charlesbell_6) January 24, 2019
Size: 5-11.5, 195
Ranking:1006th, 3-star, 84 overall (via 247sports.com)
Other Offers: Maryland, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech
Explosive safety with solid instincts. Unofficially visited campus in March and then OV this past weekend. Orange beat out nearby Maryland for Bell. One of the stronger recruits ratings wise in this 2020 class so far. Adds to an ever-growing secondary.
LB/ATH: Stefon Thompson (Zebulon B. Vance, Charlotte, NC)
Size: 6-0, 222
Ranking: 1862nd, 3-star, 81.5 overall (via 247sports.com)
Other Offers: Wisconsin, Akron, App State, Coastal Carolina, Charlotte
Syracuse offered Thompson in early May, he came up and camped for an unofficial visit on June 14th and verbally committed just seven days later on Friday, June 21st. Not a crazy offer sheet, but has good speed for his size. Will almost certainly play linebacker for the Orange. Second straight year Syracuse has grabbed a backer from NC (Kpogba in ’19).
Missed Recruits
When you pick up seven commits in roughly a week or so you’re bound to miss on some of them. That’s exactly what happened in the rush of verbals the week before the dead period. Here’s the list of targets that pledged elsewhere in the last week or so.
RB/ATH: Israel Abanikanda: Pittsburgh
Came up for official visit this past weekend but wasn’t enough to stray him away from what many believed to be the favorite on this Brooklyn speedster all along.
WR/RB: Eamonn Dennis: Michigan
Michigan lands another New England talent in Dennis, who visited the Syracuse campus twice.
WR: Jaden Dottin: Penn State
Four star stud that came for Syracuse junior day with 2020 commit and HS teammate Justin Barron
ATH: Jordan Addison: Pittsburgh
Another three-star athlete that Pittsburgh won over Syracuse.
TE: Joshua Rawlings: Virginia
Virginia swooped in late to grab Rawlings who didn’t even include the Cavs in his original top 8.
OL/C Jake Renfro: Cincinnati
Two star linemen picked Cincy over Syracuse, who was his only power five offer.
DL: Dayon Hayes: Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh again…this time on a three-star defensive linemen from…Pittsburgh,PA.
S/OLB: Elijuwan Mack: Rutgers
Many believed it was two-horse race between Rutgers and Syracuse. New Jersey kid decided to stay closer to home.
