Orange in the NFL Draft: Possible Landing Spots Tonight

Courtesy of USA Today

None of SU’s DBs are off the board as of the last pick last night. That means there’s a good chance both Ifeatu Melifonwu and Andre Cisco get selected tonight in rounds 2-3. Before we look too far ahead let’s take a look at which teams were possible landing spots for Iffy that ended up passing on him:

#29: Green Bay Packers

Coming into last night, the Packers had taken a defensive player in the first round in 8 out of their last 9 drafts, with Jordan Love from last year being the exception. This year they continued their trend of defense selecting Eric Stokes out of Georgia with the 29th pick. This was a spot where plenty of people thought Iffy could’ve gone, Green Bay ended up going to the SEC instead of the ACC for it’s talent. Stokes is a solid player, he’s big, and has game-changing speed, not surprised Melifonwu got passed on for Stokes.

#30: Buffalo Bills

The Bills made an interesting pick late in the first round, taking  Greg Rousseau, a defensive edge out of Miami. Buffalo is another team that could really use a DB like Iffy, it was surprising they didn‚Äôt at least go the DB route here. Iffy would‚Äôve fit nicely into the CB room, joining the likes of Tre‚ÄôDavious White and Levi Wallace, but alas he remains available heading into day 2.

Now let’s take a look at potential landings for both Iffy and Cisco tonight:

You‚Äôre most likely looking at early to mid round 2 for Iffy tonight. There are plenty of  talented corners left, the order in which they‚Äôre taken could go any which way. Of those left, the round 2 talents are, Asante Samuel Jr., Elijah Molden, Tyson Campbell, Paulson Adebo, and of course Iffy Melifonwu. As for teams that need one of these guys the list is as follows:

#34: New York Jets

#35: Atlanta Falcons

#37: Philadelphia Eagles

#41: Detroit Lions

#44: Dallas Cowboys

#49: Arizona Cardinals

#51: Washington Football Team

#54: Indianapolis Colts

#55: Pittsburgh Steelers

#60: New Orleans Saints

#61: Buffalo Bills

Obviously not all those teams are going to take corners, but those teams are the ones that are definitely looking for one. Whether they find their guy in this round or another is up in the air, but if Iffy is available when any of these teams are on the clock, there’s a chance he gets picked up.

As for Cisco, it’s a bit of a different story, there aren’t a whole lot of extremely talented safeties in this class, Trevon Moerig out of TCU headlines it, so he’ll probably find his home in the 3rd. Here are some teams that may take a chance on the Syracuse standout:

#65: Jacksonville Jaguars

#70: Philadelphia Eagles

#74: Washington Football Team

#77: Los Angeles Chargers

#79 & 80: Las Vegas Raiders

#85: Tennessee Titans

#94: Baltimore Ravens

Again, not all these teams will take a safety but be rooting for Cisco when they’re on the clock.
