Chance Westry: So, You’re Saying There’s A Chance?

LA Daily News

The ultimate-play-on-words name is living up to it as a recruit and giving Syracuse fans more than they can ask for… or at least us here at the Fizz. Four-star Chance Westry, whose 2022 recruiting trail continues to create new and unexpected avenues, is once again a possibility for the Orange.

Although previously favored to join LSU next fall, that proposition was debunked last week.

This is a shock to many around the recruiting scene as many 247Sports have crystal balled his arrival to Baton Rouge. It bodes the question to why the Tigers are no longer in the picture and who is now favored to land Westry.

Other schools on his radar include the aforementioned Auburn and USC, plus Arizona State, who continues to offer and land Hillcrest Prep (the high school Westry recently transferred to) attendees. Former 2022 Syracuse commit Kamari lands is one of those players to receive an offer from the Sun Devils.

From what everyone has learned, Westry‚Äôs trail is a wild goose chase. One that Syracuse supposedly bowed out of when Kamari Lands, Justin Taylor and Quadir Copeland committed. But now it’s time to rekindle the ties following Lands‚Äô decommitment. The 6-foot-6 small forward is a perfect replacement for Lands and a viable ‘3’ or ‘4’ in a small ball system for Boeheim and company. He might be a couple inches shorter, but his weight fits more of a college-style forward in the ACC.

Now the question is whether Taylor, a versatile small forward with a future in playing guard, is seen as an area of conflict for other recruits at his position. Westry has the talent and offers to play wherever he’d like, so joining a group with another four-star who plays in his exact spot is far from enticing. But the idea of joining forces with a pair of four-stars under an experienced head coach might be enough to sway the former Sierra Canyon guard the other way.

Ultimately, Westry is a lost cause in regards to predictions. He left a school with plenty of talent and recognition for the same deal in a different state. The four-star has also been rumored to be heading to multiple schools with no word on when he’ll even commit.

The consensus: It’s far from a fluid situation, but don’t expect him to choose his college destination soon. But when he does make that decision, Syracuse still has a chance… and for that reason, Westry’s name fits perfectly.
