Syracuse Football Lands Three-Star QB LaNorris Sellers

The quarterback position is not going to be a worry for Syracuse Football for a while. The Orange found their QB of the future in Garrett Shrader, behind him is a pretty darn good prospect in Justin Lamson, and now there is another solid option coming to Central New York. On Sunday, LaNorris Sellers announced his commitment to Syracuse.

Sellers is a three-star quarterback from Florence, SC. He’s currently listed at 6-foot-2, 215 lbs. Based on the 247Sports recruiting rankings, Sellers is the No. 32 quarterback prospect in his class and the sixth best recruit in South Carolina. The dual-threat QB is in the class of 2023, meaning he is a junior in high school right now and won’t be on the hill next season. He is the first Cuse commit in the class.

Sellers earned seven scholarship offers, headlined by ACC foes Virginia and Virginia Tech. He actually committed to UVA back in July of 2021, but decommitted in January after there were some coaching changes made in Charlottesville. Dino Babers then hired former Cavaliers Robert Anae and Jason Beck, which led Sellers to follow them and come to Syracuse.

“I just really fell in love with their system and stuff, and I wanted to play under them,‚Äù Sellers told SI Syracuse‚Äôs Mike McAllister. ‚ÄúWith all the quarterbacks they’ve had in the past, success that they’ve had, that’s really why.”

Sellers is a prototypical dual-threat quarterback that will fit nicely in Babers’s scheme. He has quick feet and knows how to move around in the pocket. His speed and strength carry him in the run game in high school, but once he gets to college those attributes will even out with everyone else. His arm is solid, but can always improve. Good thing for him is the current SU offense doesn’t ask much of his arm.

“Obviously I’m a quarterback,” Sellers told McAllister. “Run it, throw it, can extend the play if need be and can also stay in the pocket. Really can use my feet whenever.”

He fits the Syracuse quarterback mold and has strong relationships already with the coaches. There is not much else you can ask for. Keep an eye on LaNorris Sellers, he could prove to be a well-known name in Central New York very soon.
