Fran Brown Secures Third Commitment of 2024

It may be a new year, but the fireworks Fran Brown has brought to the 315 remain. Just three days into the new year the Orange have three first commitments for 2024 and this one comes in a position of need. Based on a response to Deion Sanders last month it seems like Brown is well aware of this need. Kyle McCord is a great quarterback when he has time. But when the Ohio State transfer faces pressure he struggles.

Syracuse secured the commitment of Joshua Miller, a guard from Georiga last month. But, just one newcomer wasn’t going to be enough for SU. So the ‘Cuse has brought in another big man. And this guy is huge. Da’Metrius Weatherspoon, an OT from Howard University announced his commitment earlier today. The Pennsylvania native has two years of eligibility left. He stands at a massive 6’7 335 pounds. Weatherspoon is more than just his size. He was one of the best offensive linemen in all of the FCS this past season and earned a number of honors. Weatherspoon was named an HBCU All-American this season and first-team all-MEAC.

Howard’s offense this season was one of the best in the country and the offensive line was a massive factor in the success. In the 765 snaps that Weatherspoon took this season, he gave up just two sacks. In addition, he adds versatility to the line. This past year, Weatherspoon played both right and left tackle. With the injuries that the Orange faced on the offensive line this past season, SU saw first hand that versatility is one of the most important things in the trenches.

There is still more to be done but Fran Brown continues to be a monster on the recruiting trail. Jalen Travis from Princeton is expected to visit later this month and would be another huge addition for SU.
