Observations From The ACC Tournament: Championship Game

What A Run By NC State

One of the greatest stories in the history of ACC basketball. The Wolfpack become the first double-digit seed to EVER win the ACC Tournament and just the second NCAA team ever to win five games in five days to win a conference title. The Pack win their first ACC title since 1987. This is the type of game and run that movies are made about. What a story.

Things You Thought You’d Never See

The first half for NC State featured some stuff that if you told me would happen I would call you insane. First off, DJ Burns made his three-pointer of the season as the shot clock expired, pure chaos. But that was just the start, because Ernest Ross checked in for the Wolfpack towards the end of the first half and made his first field goal since November 17th 2023. NC State hasn’t won a conference title since 1987 and a double-digit seed has never won the ACC tournament so for the Pack to even have a chance, chaos like this was going to have to happen.

The Stars Showed Up

Exactly what you want to see in a championship game, both teams’ best players played exceptional games. RJ Davis, DJ Horne, Armando Bacot, and DJ Burns all played spectacularly today, making big shots and attempting to will their teams to victory. That’s exactly what you need from your stars in tournament action. It also makes watching the game just so much more fun. DJ Burrns won the ACC Tournament MVP just like he deserved. He became one of my favorite players in college basketball this week.
