The Philadelphia 76ers have announced the signing of former Syracuse basketball guard Judah Mintz for the NBA Summer League. After going undrafted in the recent 2024 NBA Draft, Mintz is poised to be a vital guard for the 76ers summer league roster.
Mintz averaged 18.8 points per game, along with 4.4 assists and 3.2 rebounds, in his sophomore and final season with the Orange. He elected to return to Syracuse after considering entering the 2023 NBA Draft. The Maryland native remained fairly consistent with his numbers from his first year.
SU fans were hoping to see Mintz be the first Syracuse player drafted since the New Orleans Pelicans selected Elijah Hughes in the second round in 2020.
Mintz now has a chance to show his strength and versatility as a guard on a national stage with the 76ers. The Sixers get extra time on the floor due to their participation in the Salt Lake City Summer League, where they will face the Oklahoma City Thunder, Memphis Grizzlies, and Utah Jazz on July 8, 9, and 10. This is before the 76ers play in the NBA2K25 Summer League 2024, with games on July 13, 15, 16, and 19.
Mintz should have several games to demonstrate his skills and what made him valuable at Syracuse. He hopes to translate this value to the larger stage, competing with draftees, other undrafted players, and second-year NBA players.
Aside from Mintz, the 76ers are set to showcase their new draft picks from last week, including Duke guard Jared McCain and UCLA center Adem Bona. McCain was selected 16th overall, while Bona was taken in the middle of the second round.
SU fans should be excited to see some Orange representation throughout the country in the summer league, especially with the announcement that Buddy Boeheim will be playing with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
