This past weekend Fran Brown hosted the first ever Franchise Coaching Clinic for local coaches. Two time Super Bowl Champion Head Coach and SU Alumni and former Assistant Coach Tom Coughlin was the keynote speaker.
Brown expressed how the experience was one he’ll always remember. “For me it was an honor honestly… Just me being Marlon Browns son… and then her song can call Tom Coughlin and say that I want you to come up and speak to the coaches and speak to the team and he’ll say all right im coming Fran.”
Nick Williams is the Defensive Ends Coach for the Orange. He is in his 30s and thought of as one of the best up and coming coaches in the country. He said that it was a special day for him.
So special that Williams wanted his dad to meet Coughlin, “I tried to FaceTime my dad so he could meet him and he didn’t answer the phone so sucks for my dad.”
When the former Giants Head Coach was at Syracuse as both a player and assistant, his head man was Hall of Famer Ben Schwartzwalder. The 1959 National Coach of the Year’s teams were always known for being tough. Coughlin teams in the NFL always were tough as well.
Toughness is one T in Fran Browns “DART” motto, He sees lots of similarities with some of the SU legends. “I think we were similar coaches. He’s an aggressive coach. He was about what it took to win. No nonsense guy.”
Brown is grateful for the relationship he has with a future Hall of Fame coach, “He always text me during the season. He was happy with a lot of the stuff that he saw. So I’m very thankful to be able to call him a friend.”
For the up and coming coach Williams, he’s enjoying working for this tight knit staff, “We work together man. We don’t be in our feelings. We want to win. We want to win for coach Fran. We want to win for our families. We want to win for these boys we want to win for Syracuse.”
