Twenty-two is a number most in Orange Nation find synonymous with Gaits and Powells.
But for Syracuse football faithful, it’s a number that won’t be around long, but symbolizes progress on The Hill. It’s how many recruits SU has as of today.
Let’s flash back to ’08. There were¬†EIGHT recruits in the class of 2009.
Now check two more over this weekend for options on the offensive line.
The first, tight end Beckett Wales (pictured),¬†from where else but Florida, decided to pick the Orange. While he may need to fill out (6’3″, 210 pounds), Wales is seen as a good receiver with plenty of potential.
He also seems to be a pretty confident kid, wanting to contribute at H-Back immediately.
It’s just another part of Doug Marrone’s reclamation of the Sunshine State, and he hasn’t even had to buy billboards down there (zing Coach Schiano).
So how has he done it? Check out the latest FizzCast, where D.A. chats it up with Florida recruiting czar Larry Blustein. Also, Team Fizz breaks down the hoops win over Maine and the upcoming showdown with Florida.
Later Sunday, Nassau Community College showed it’s John Anselmo Orange when¬†Michael Hay committed to the ‘Cuse.¬†Don’t forget, big boy and Turningtstone accident victim Andrew Tiller also was a product of Anselmo’s old stomping grounds.
Hay, the newest member to the offensive line, is listed at 6’6″ and 280 pounds. Which begs the question: What are they feeding these kids on Long Island?
The number is at 22 today, but don’t get used to it: Marrone is hot on the trail, and the more, the merrier, because traveling 57 in the last game of the season isn’t where this program needs to be.
