Monday Morning Recruiting Round Up: Answering the Key Questions Before NSD

How many players are in Syracuse’s 2015 class and how many more players can be added now that Kielan Whitner has committed? There are currently 24 players in Syracuse’s 2015 recruiting class. It may look like more on scouting sites because those websites list running back Tyrone Perkins and defensive end Brandon Ginnetti as 2015 commits, when they have said they will not enroll until January 2016. Also, tight end Trey Dunkelberger and long-snapper Matt Keller enrolled at SU this month, so they do not count towards the 2015 fall semester class. That leaves 24 recruits. Per NCAA rules, a maximum of 25 scholarship players can enroll in a given semester, so the Orange has one more spot open for next fall if the team can fill them.

Who will Syracuse try to land to fill that spot? SU is high on Florida linebacker Doyle Grimes. He committed to Syracuse in the summer but then elected to open up his options. He should choose the Orange once again on National Signing Day.

After the Dana Levine decommitment is there anyone else in danger of flipping? 21 out of 24 commits in SU’s 2015 recruiting class are definitely going to sign with the Orange. Three players are still weighing their options. The first is defensive tackle Tyler Cross. The Georgia native committed to Syracuse in July, but took official visits to Wake Forest and Georgia State in the last three weeks. Pennsylvania tight end Amir Ealey officially visited Central Florida two weekends ago, although he does seem strong to SU. Finally, Georgia safety Christopher Frederick has had recent interest from Stanford, but has said he plans to stick with Syracuse as well.
