We’re just four days away from the Sweet 16. SU takes on Houston this Saturday for a chance to play in the Elite 8. Gill Gross and I will have coverage for you all week, make sure to listen to the podcast week recorded this afternoon:
We’ve officially hit the lull in March Madness. No more games on the docket until Saturday. This gives us some time to think about what we’ve seen this year. Oral Roberts is of course the team that has delivered the biggest shock this season and is certainly the biggest bracket bust. The Golden Eagles took down No. 2 Ohio State in the first round, and No. 7 Florida in the second. The Summit league champs will take on No. 3 Arkansas in the Sweet 16. That is a great story, but certainly not the only one out there. The Midwest region as a whole has been extremely competitive. That turned out the be true, but not in the way, I was thinking. Instead of the higher seeds, driven by star power taking charge over the lower seeds, teams like Syracuse, Loyola-Chicago, and Oregon State have pulled huge upsets. It seems inevitable that 2nd-Houston falls, whether that be to Syracuse on Saturday or whoever the Cougars play in the Elite 8 if they get by the Orange.
It’s a good time to take a step back and appreciate what we’ve had so far in this season’s tournament. Plenty of upsets, plenty of higher-seed dominance, and some really great basketball. Not to mention, Syracuse has been playing incredibly.
Also, side note, I think it’s about to get #fizzinindy trending on Twitter:
Gill and I will be back with another FizzCast tomorrow with a member of Houston media to detail the Cougars. I’ll continue to have you covered throughout the week with a daily post and FizzCast.
