Busy Week Of Commits For Fran Brown

An offseason day for Syracuse football and first-year head coach Fran Brown includes a push to bring talent to Central New York. Yesterday evening, the 247Sports’ National Recruiter of the Year made another move.

The first quarterback of the class of 2025 accepted an offer to Syracuse. 6-foot-2, 200-pound Luke Carney, out of Dallas Christian High School, chooses SU over Arizona, Arkansas, Boston College, BYU, California, Louisville, San Diego State, USF, and more.

Carney becomes the eighth 2025 commitment. He threw for 3,723 yards and just six interceptions during his junior year on an 80.2% completion rate. The four-star recruit, per Rivals.com, also ran for 843 yards.

The recruiting push continues for Brown. Defensive end Jaylen Pray and defensive back Jordan Gibbs verbally committed in the last two days. Also, offensive lineman Byron Washington and cornerback Marcus Upton accepted following a visit to Syracuse’s spring practice on Saturday.

Now, let’s take a step back and acknowledge the work that Brown has done as of late.

He was known to be one of the top recruiters in the country when he accepted the job to be Dino Babers’ successor. But he has already made the hype for next season more drastic by bringing in some top-level talent.

Four-star Ohio State transfer quarterback Kyle McCord, four-star defensive end KingJoseph Edwards, and four-star Texas A&M transfer Fadil Diggs are set to be on next year’s roster.

Duce Chestnut has also decided to return to Syracuse after one season with LSU. He appeared in just two games under head coach Brian Kelly. The junior heads north after a remarkable two years with the Orange where he tallied at least 40 tackles each season.

The names are coming together. However, the question going forward is how does Brown translate the recruiting success to performances on the field.
