Only one team stands between the St. Edward (OH) Eagles and a state championship. Troy Henderson Jr.’s team knocked off Hudson last weekend 42-14 to advance to the state championship game against Huber Heights Wayne on Saturday.
Henderson Jr. and the rest of the St. Ed’s defense has played exceptionally well throughout the playoffs. The team has given up an average of only seven points per game in its four post-season games. The linebacker will be seriously tested this weekend; however, Wayne has averaged over 30 points per game in its four playoff games.
The other linebacker in SU’s 2015 class played in his final high school game on Thanksgiving. Shy Cullen and his Lowell (MA) team defeated Haverhill (MA) 8-6. Cullen (who also plays running back) had a 19-yard run late in the game to give his team the win. SU’s thirteenth commit caught a pitch in his own end zone and managed to run for a first down, which allowed Lowell to see the game out. Post game Cullen told reporters that he was happy to end his high school career on a, “game like this.”
In Florida, Sterling Hofrichter’s Armwood team destroyed Gainesville 56-0 last Friday to advance to the state semifinals. SU’s future kicker converted on all seven of his extra points in the game. Armwood now faces off against Choctahwatchee on Friday with the winner going to the state championship.
Finally, Pennsylvania receiver Freddie Simmons Jr. decommitted from Rutgers yesterday afternoon via his twitter account. Syracuse is interested in the Liberty high school product but has yet to offer according Rivals. Simmons Jr. lives in Bethlehem P.A., the same town as KJ Williams.
