Orange Among Finalists for Four-Star Recruit

Tomorrow, the first day of February, is a huge day for Orange recruiting.  It’s all aboard the hype train, as Syracuse can get one of its best recruits of the last decade.  Offensive lineman Stewart Reese is planning on announcing his college decision on Monday, according to Scout.

Reese is rated both three stars and four stars by various outlets around the country and visited campus two weekends ago.  If recent visits by recruits have been any indication, the coaching staff is doing a great job.  After all, SU did pull in seven verbal commitments in a 24-hour window, which is still pretty absurd.

Out of Florida, Reese is a 6-foot-6, 333-pound beast that would be a massive get for Dino Babers and his coaching staff.  Offensive line projects to be one of the weakest groups for the Orange in 2016, and Reese has the talent to plug into the rotation as a true freshman.  Reese would become the fifth offensive lineman to verbally commit for 2016, joining Michael Clark, Sam Heckel, Liam O’Sullivan, and Airon Servais.  The Fizz recently spoke with Servais about his commitment.

Currently, it’s between Syracuse and SEC giant Mississippi State.  Syracuse can definitely offer more playing time than the Bulldogs, but playing in the SEC trumps the ACC for sure.  Reese was also heavily interested in hometown Florida State, but unless something changes, the Seminoles recruiting class is already filled.  Illinois was also a possibility, until Reese cancelled his visit scheduled for this weekend.

How important is Reese to the SU recruiting staff?  Reese has been primarily recruited by Nick Monroe, the secondary coach.  Monroe traveled down to Florida before Reese visited, and then took another trip this past week after Mississippi State did the same.   According to Reese, his high school ran a no-huddle offense, so he thinks that he can adjust to Babers’ scheme rather easily.  Reese has signaled out academics as a key factor in his college decision, which is fresh to hear.  He has already said that Syracuse fits what he is looking for academically.
