SU Top 100: #49 Mike Leveille

Checking in at 49th on our SU Top 100 list is one of the two winners of the Tewaaraton Award in Orange history. Mike Leveille had a prolific career with Syracuse from 2005-2008.

While at SU, Leveille experienced both the lowest valley and highest peak of Orange lacrosse. In his junior season, the Orange went 5-8 in what is their only sub-.500 season and missed tournament appearance since 1976.

But that was followed up with a monster turnaround in 2008. Not only did Leveille receive national accolades, but his Orange went on to win its 10th national championship.

That season, Leveille had one of the top goal scoring years in Orange history. His 49 tallies ranks 8th all-time in SU single season history. That, couple with 34 assists, landed him as the 2008 Tewaaraton winner.

Leveille also experienced success with SU in 2006 when the team went to the Final Four, before losing to eventual champion and top seeded Virginia.

Statistically, Leveille may not stack up as well with many other Orange players on our SU Top 100 list. Some of that can be contributed to the games he missed out on because of a missed tournament and first round exit. But where his legacy makes up for the inferior numbers is due to the fact that he was named the best player in the sport in 2008, something only one other lacrosse player on our list has done.

After his playing days in the Dome were over, Leveille was selected 3rd overall in the 2008 Major League Lacrosse draft by the New Jersey Pride before being sent over to the Chicago Machine to play with his brother, Kevin, a former UMass player.
