We completed the fifth stream of ‘Simulation Syracuse’ last night. This series is a virtual run through SU’s 2021 season schedule. The loss last night to Florida State drops the ‘Cuse to 2-3, 0-1 in the ACC. All the previous streams are available at this link.
The offense was stale in the close loss to the Seminoles. Garrett Shrader’s struggles from the second half against Liberty carried over into today’s contest. The Mississippi State transfer failed to lead a scoring drive in the second half against the Flames.
Last night he led a pair of series’ for field goals but no touchdowns. Shrader also threw three picks and fumbled three times prompting the decision to bench him and put Tommy DeVito into the contest.
DeVito subsequently led a scoring drive on an efficient 5-6 passing and hooked up with Oronde Gadsden II for his first career touchdown reception.
The defense was spectacular once again forcing a pair of turnovers and causing havoc in the backfield. Several times the 3-3-5 forced FSU to settle for field goals and kept the Orange in the game as long as possible.
The quarterback decision will be interesting, do we go back to DeVito after his impressive drive, or do we give Shrader one more opportunity? We’ll find out on the next stream early next week, likely Monday or Tuesday so stay tuned…
