What's up Orange Fizz Nation, my name is Alex Burstein and we're just a month away from the 2024
0:05
Paris Olympics where Syracuse Men's Hoops is hoping to keep a streak going, where they've
0:10
been represented in every tournament since back in 2004. Most recently it was Jeremy Grant in 2021
0:17
winning gold with Team USA in Tokyo and this year it could either be an athlete from Team Canada or
0:23
the Bahamas who keeps the streak going. We'll start on the Canadian side of things where O'Shea Brissett
0:28
the former Orange and recent NBA champion with the Boston Celtics, was recently invited to the
0:34
Team Canada training camp. There was 20 players invited to that, 12 of which will make the cut
0:40
for our Canada team that's in the Olympics for the first time since 2000. But this is not a
0:45
Canada team to take lightly. There are some stars. SGA, RJ Barrett, Dylan Brooks have more or less
0:51
locked up spots on this team. Brissett, he's more on the border. He could be the first or second guy
0:56
left off the team or he could make that 10th, 11th, 12th spot on the Canada roster and keep this
1:02
streak going. The other option for Syracuse is over with the Bahamas, a team that has never made
1:07
the Olympics before. They haven't locked up their spot quite yet. They have to play in a qualifying
1:12
tournament in Spain in early July, but part of that roster is incoming 2024 five-star power forward
1:19
Donnie Freeman. He's the highest rated recruit for Syracuse this year, had an excellent high school
1:24
season and he's been tearing it up the past few years on the travel circuit and now he's going to
1:29
be playing at the international level with the likes of players like Buddy Heald and DeAndre Aiden
1:34
So a definite step up in competition for Freeman, but he's going to be playing with some stars. We
1:40
mentioned Heald and Aiden and this is an opportunity for him to learn how to play at a really advanced
1:45
level and try to push him to be an even better college player when he steps on the court
1:50
at the JMA Wireless Dome in a few months. He's also going to be facing off against some really
1:54
good talent in the qualifying tournament. He's guaranteed games against some top European teams
1:59
like Finland and Poland, so it's a really good learning experience for Donnie Freeman and if
2:04
they win he could be headed to Paris. So either O'Shea Brissett or Donnie Freeman trying to keep
2:10
the streak going as Syracuse tries to make it to the 2024 Paris Olympics
